IMAP--Short for Internet Message Access Protocol offers a more powerful and effective way of accessing and organizing your email. The benefits of using IMAP to access your mailbox include:

remote access With IMAP all of your email lives remotely on the Visionet mail servers. This means that it is possible to access and manipulate the same mailbox from your work computer, your laptop or your home PC. Also many other devices such as IMAP-capable PDA's and mobile phones can now be used to access your email in this way. This means you have a consistent view of your email from any number of devices.

Because your email lives on Visionet's email servers you do not have to worry about losing your email should your hard disk fail or your mail software become corrupted. You can simply replace the hard disk or reinstall the software and then reconnect to your mail server and all your mail will be unaffected!

Unlike with the standard POP email service, with IMAP you can browse your email without actually having to download the contents of any message. This means you can view the basic information about a message such as the sender, subject, date etc. without having to download large attachments or message contents first. As a result you can very quickly get an overview of your mailbox before downloading messages that interest you. This can save a lot of time waiting for unwanted messages to download.

With the rich features offered by IMAP, you can organize your emails into folders or even subfolders as well as attach other information such as priorities and message statuses. You can safely move emails between folders without having to download messages first. With IMAP you can check your email from multiple computers or IMAP-capable devices at the same time! This means that you can check your email from your IMAP-capable mobile phone, your home PC and perhaps your laptop at the same time and any changes made to your mailbox are reflected on all your other devices. Also, IMAP stores the status of each of your messages such as whether a message has already been read and this is reflected immediately across all devices regardless of their location.

Spam is becoming a major problem today and many users spend a lot of time downloading emails that they don't want to read. With IMAP only the basic information about a message is downloaded first such as the sender's address and subject. This allows you to make a decision as to whether you wish to delete the message or download the message contents. This can save a lot of time in cleaning up Spam messages in your mailbox especially on a slower dial-up connection and if you know that the message is in fact a 'virus' then you can remove the message before it is ever downloaded to your PC!

IMAP mail access monthly fee is $2.95 per mailbox and includes a 10MB mailbox size.

mailbox size
Visionet offers you the ability to increase your mailbox size so it is capable of storing more email. Each mailbox includes 10MB of storage; you may increase your mail storage allocation up to 100MB for a monthly fee of $9.95 per mailbox.

To enable IMAP mail access you will need to contact us by phone or email and our support staff can assist you in the process of reconfiguring your mail software to use IMAP instead of POP and change your mail server settings to use our IMAP server.
